SEMA Approved Inspectors

SEMA are the only UK organisation who specifically train, examine and audit inspectors of storage equipment under their SARI (SEMA Approved Rack Inspector Scheme). There are currently nearly 100 SARIs in the UK, many directly employed by SDG members.

SDG members have access to all the SEMA guidelines, work closely with Sema and consequently are perfectly placed to help with the safety and management of your warehouse.

Storage Equipment is a valuable asset and should be cared for appropriately, there are many regulations that relate to the use, inspection and maintenance of your equipment and SDG members are in the best position to offer advice and services to ensure that the warehouse is safe and efficient.

The following are some of the many services that SDG members can offer.

Racking Inspections

Storage Equipment should be inspected on a regular basis, this is recommended by the Health & Safety Executive, the ‘person responsible for racking safety’ will determine how often and the systems used in your particular environment, as an SDG member we can help to train that person and advise on their responsibilities.

In addition an ‘expert’ inspection should be carried out by a technically competent person at intervals of not more than 12 months. SDG members can carry out this thorough inspection for you using a fully qualified SARI and advise on how best to maintain your particular racking system.

Following racking inspections your system may need repair work to be carried out, SDG members have a wealth of knowledge in carrying out repairs to all types of racking systems and will be able to carry out these works to ensure the structural integrity of the racking system to the manufacturer's design criteria.

Rack Protection

SDG members have years of experience of warehouse design and can tailor rack protection systems to your particular environment, they can advise on minimum requirements advised by the HSE and propose recommendations based upon the new Sema SEMA code for rack protection. Introducing rack protections systems significantly reduces the amount of rack damage.

Safe use of Pallet Racking

SDG members can advise on the safe use of pallet racking with particular emphasis on rack safety, clearances, types of pallet used, fork lift truck and other MHE interface and housekeeping, ensuring your warehouse is safe and efficient.
